This shows a 100mm Steel Frame Direct floor on top of our trailer. We recommend a 150 mm high to allow jacking up the floor and cabin to show that it is an oversized payload (3m wide) on a NZTA legal trailer (2.5m wide). The additional height provides strength to limit deflection. Our trailers now are made for 4 axles.
Bring Your Design to Life
This section is about finishing your tiny home. You can build whatever you want, but if you want to know what the factories use, this answers that question.
DIY does require basic building skills. You need to know how to assemble the wall panels and ensure they are set right. You need to know how to close it in to be watertight, how to apply flashing to joinery, how to insulate, wrap and do a correct cavity-wall construction. If in doubt, find a friendly licensed building practitioner who will not only know the rules, but show you how to do it, and then inspect your work. As it is not a building, you don’t need their official sign off, only their skilled eye and hand.
Shopping List
These are some NZBC products the factory buys. Factories buy NZBC approved products as a form of insurance. Mobile homes are not buildings, and as long as they remain vehicles in the eyes of the law, NZBC does not apply. But using NZBC compliant products makes the target smaller, should a neighbour complain and the council comes looking for an excuse to make demands.
